Bill DeMott meinte:"I don’t think (management) knew what they were going to do with him, but they knew he had the look. They didn’t know that he was going to become so big, so fast. At the end of the match, people said ’He beat Hugh Morrus! Who is this guy?’ All of a sudden it’s, ’Goldberg! Goldberg!’ That was probably one of the best things they’d done. They created a machine.“
Paul Heyman meinte:„Vince McMahon created a character that revolutionized how a heel would be perceived in this industry. When his back was to the wall, he came out swinging. Not only did he do it behind the scenes with his own creativity, he also went in front of the cameras and popped the business with his own ability to perform. I admire the fact that, when in desperate need of a great heel for Austin to play off, Vince created Mr. McMahon and did it himself because he knew he could. He knew he could rely on himself, because it was his company. Vince put his money where his mouth was, and it paid off.“
Paul Heyman meinte:“The Austin/Tyson altercation was the first moment since I was a kid that got me out of my chair and made me stand up and say ’Holy shit!’ This is it, this is the moment. If I got that rush out of me, I knew everybody would be talking about it. And if you didn’t see it, you missed something that will be remembered for years. To me, it was the most perfectly executed, brilliantly laid out, perfect moment I’ve ever seen in sports-entertainment. It was at that moment Stone Cold Steve Austin became a god, the WWF became the company to watch, and Raw became the show that you couldn’t afford to miss.“
Tony Schiavone meinte:“Fans, don't even think about changing the channel, because we've learned that at our competition, Mick Foley, who used to wrestle here as Cactus Jack, is going to win their world title! Heh, talk about putting asses in the seats!“
Mick Foley meinte:“"I waited for the ratings to come in, and they showed something very surprising. They showed that almost to the moment that Tony Schiavone said that stupid comment, WCW had been winning the show. And the moment he said that stupid comment, something like 300,000 homes - which maybe meant half a million people - turned immediately. So not only did their company come across like scumbags for insulting someone whom the fans held in some measure of respect, but they also cost themselves a hell of a lot of viewers."
Big Show meinte:„I had a three-year contract with WCW, and from the first day I walked in the door, I was just biding my time to get to the WWF. Hulk Hogan told me to use WCW as a stepping stone, that if I wanted to be the biggest star in the business, I had to go to the WWF, because nobody knows sports-entertainment like Vince McMahon."
Rey Mysterio meinte:"WCW couldn’t get back to the top because of their lack of ability to push talent. They didn’t wanted to make any superstars. It was always the same guys on top. The answer was obviously right there. You got all this bunch off talent and you are not doing nothing with them... why can’t you push new stars? Look at what they’re doing at WWE, they had Edge, they had Christian, they had the Dudleyz, they had Jeff and Matt (Hardy). You know, what’s up with all of us? We can be stars too, you know? We got enough."
Man wollte gar keine neuen Superstars schaffen. Warum pushte man keine neuen Stars?
Chris Jericho meinte:"One time, I had a match on Nitro with me and Eddie Guerrero against Dean Malenko and Booker T, and we went to the office to ask their advice on the match. The one guy in charge who was getting paid hundreds of thousands of dollars to run the ship said to me, ’Why do you even care about your match? No one’s going to remember it two days from now.’ Comments like that really struck a nerve. They might not care, but I do."
Chris Jericho meinte:"The boys down in WCW were watching it with no sound, because the people in the office wouldn’t let them hear it. But they all saw it, and everyone was quite exited. I think it also planted a lot of seeds into those guys’ minds - like Benoit, Dean, Eddie and Perry - that maybe they could get out there, and it could be like that for them."
Raven meinte:Everyone was very upset there. There wasn’t a person in the company who wasn’t miserable. One day, Eric called a lockerroom meeting, and the first words out of his mouth were, ’Our attorney is outside. Raven, if you’re unhappy with the company, there’s the door.’ So, I stood up and said, ’See ya,’ and walked out."
The Rock meinte:"When you’re going back and forth switching between Raw and Nitro, and you see what is on their show, and turn to our channel to see The Rock and Mick Foley having this big party, you’re not going to switch back. I thought the comedic chemistry we had was very entertaining, and I think a lot of people felt that too, based on the huge rating we got."
Road Dogg meinte:"Russo and Ed have never been in a ring in their life. They don't know anything about timing, about placement, about anything inside the ring. They know about storylines. Well, anybody can write a storyline. It takes the wrestler to go out there. I never did one finish he gave me. We changed every finish. We make it good, not him."
Eddie Guerrero meinte:“We may had not been stars at that time... Chris Benoit was, he had that (WCW World Heavyweight) belt and all that, he was getting that push. But you know, we definitely were the workhorses of WCW. Chris Benoit, Dean Malenko, Eddie Guerrero, Perry Saturn, and others like Rey Mysterio; we were the backbone of that company. When they lost us they lost there backbone.“
Chris Benoit meinte:I just had to get out of there! I told them I wanted to leave long before I won the (WCW) belt. There were so many negative things going on and I was really unhappy. I wasn't the only one who wanted to leave either. Bill Busch was running WCW at the time and when we originally went in to ask for our releases there were 21 of us. When Bill walked into the room there were 12, when our backs were against the wall there were five and when push came to shove it was just me, Eddie Guerrero, Dean Malenko and Perry Saturn. I've tried to erase that WCW title win over Sid Vicious from my memory. It's not that I didn't like Sid or the match, but because it was such a negative time in my life. I may have been the champion, but it meant nothing. If you were that miserable in a job, hated it so much, took your work home and were miserable at home and had no happiness in your life - would it be a risk to leave?"
